Graduation day at The Good Shepherd Pre-School – Mpika, Zambia

Here at Wood Fen Lodge we were delighted to receive this photo of The Good Shepherd Pre-School’s second graduation day where four of the children graduated on to Government schools. Community pre-schools like this are rare and not only are the teaching staff here all volunteers, they need our help to ensure the children have all the things to help them learn to read and write and to give them the best start they can get before going to a Government school from the age of 7.

We are on a mission!
We have already had a Staff “winter” party at the end of December, where a raffle on the night raised an impressive £200 to kick start our fund. Andrew Bwalya from the school wrote to us to say how much this money had helped them to:

  • pay for the building rental from January to April (4) months
  • purchase teaching materials for all the next school term (Jan-April 2018)
  • provide each pupils with books, pencils, crayons, etc.

Our next mission is to send out a package of writing equipment. If you can help us raise even more money or wish to send writing supplies, please post to Yvonne at the Wood Fen Lodge address.

PS I hope to share with you my plans for our next fundraising event/activity in next month’s newsletter.
